FAQ

WHAT IS NICA?
National Interscholastic Cycling Association. For more information visit www.nationalmtb.org.
The Oregon Interscholastic Cycling League is a project league of NICA and serves youth mountain bikers and facilitates mountain bike events across the state of Oregon. For more information visit http://www.oregonmtb.org/.

WHAT IS THE NICA MISSION?
NICA provides high quality, safe and fun mountain bike programs for Oregon’s youth by exposing students to opportunities to build strong body, mind, and character through an equal and inclusive scholastic-based program.

WHO CAN JOIN THE TEAM?
Students in grades 6-12 from the Greater Corvallis Area: this includes Corvallis and Crescent Valley High Schools, Cheldelin, Linus Pauling and Franklin Middle School. Also home-schooled students ages 11-18. Riders from Albany, Philomath and nearby towns are eligible to ride provided they can attend practices.

DO I NEED PREVIOUS RACE EXPERIENCE?
No! Anyone can join. Beginner to experienced bike riders are all welcome.

IS TEAM SIZE LIMITED?
Yes. We want to invite ALL interested students to join the team. However, NICA requires strict safety protocols and coach/athlete ratios to provide a safe and fun learning environment. As more coaches volunteer, more riders will be allowed to join the team. Spread the word—we need coaches and volunteers!

WHAT ABOUT THE SUMMER RACE SCHEDULE?
Generally, the team will generally meet two times per week from July 1- Oct 27. Practice attendance is not required. Days and times will vary based on coach availability. A schedule will be worked out between coaches and students at the start of the season.

WHAT ABOUT NICA BIKE RACES?
NICA races emphasize the value of participation, camaraderie, positive sporting behavior, and well-being over competition. Races are optional for all athletes.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
– $275 National and State League Fee (non-refundable paid to NICA).
– $10 to $110 sliding scale Corvallis Composite Team fee (refundable paid to Corvallis Team).
– $65 for the Corvallis Team jersey.
Fees do not include the following items: bike, helmet, bike parts, riding gear (other than team jersey), or camping & travel fees to NICA races.

ARE SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE?

Please email us at corvallismtb@gmail.com for more information about assistance with the Corvallis Team fees.

– Bike in good working order
– Helmet

– Bike kit (small bike pump, tube, tire levers, etc.)

HOW DO I JOIN THE TEAM?
If you have completed a Student Rider Application, you will receive a registration invite email from NICA. Register using the link provided in this email. If registration is full, you will be placed on the waiting list.

In order to reduce and/or eliminate the likelihood of having a waiting list, we are working hard to recruit additional coaches. If you are willing to become a NICA coach, please complete the Coach Application!
